- 2/17/08 at 23.
1988 Kentucky Derby winner, also
was victorious in the Santa Anita Derby and Oaks in
the same year. The large gray filly was then
3rd in the Preakness and 2nd to Personal Ensign in
the Breeders' Cup Distaff. Earning the Eclipse
Award for 3yo filly in 1988, she was elected to the
Racing Hall of Fame in 2000. Winning Colors is

Stop the Music. Ballindaggin lived out his later years
in the care of Old Friends Equine, KY where a public
memorial will be held later this summer.
Banderas - 9/25/08 at 9. Sired by Seattle Slew and
out of the Forty Niner mare Bondore, he stood at Veloctiy

Bankers Gold - 4/2008 at 14. Graded stakes
winner in the U.S., he earned $461,420 and sired 10 stakes
winners. Earlier this year, he was exported to Cyprus
from Pin Oak Lane Farm, ,PA.
Barn Fire horses - 1/4/08 - 6 horses lost in third fire at the
former Riverside Downs, a training/boarding facility in
Henderson, KY. This is the third fire since 2003 when
22 horses died.
Barn Fire horses - 1/19/08 - 43 Quarter Horses lost in
fire at farm of trainer Eddie Willis in Carney, OK. 4
horses were saved. All 43 horses which perished were
buried on the farm.
Barn Fire horses - 4/19/08 - 11 horses were lost in a
barn fire at Fab Oak Stable, Lexington, KY.
Barn Fire horses - 9/25/08 - 12 horses at Velocity
Farms, LA lost in barn fire, including Deerhound, Banderas,
El Lobo, Filmore, and Wild Wildcat.
Barn Fire horses - 11/21/08. 28 horses were killed
in a barn fire at Riverside Downs. On
1/4/08 another barn
fire at the training/boarding center killed 6, now bringing
the count to 4 fires since 2003. Among the horses lost
were Kept Lady and Survita. The fire began near
an electrical panel, and there were no signs of arson.
Donations are being accepted at Ellis Park for trainers
who lost horses and equipment.
Barn Fire horses - 12/12/08 in Pierce County,
Washington. 15 horses were lost and could not be
saved due to flames exacerbated by the hay kept in the
barn.
Blazing Sword - 4/12/08 at 14. Graded stakes
winning gelding, he raced through age 7 and retired with
earnings in excess of $1 million. Blazing Sword was
living out his retirement at Stonehedge Farm, FL.
Boozin' Bear - 12/31/08 at 3. Bay gelding

Cozzene

champion, Cozzene won the 1985 Eclipse Award for
Turf Horse, retiring to Gainesway the following
year where he stood until his death. A
sire of multiple stakes winners, he was the
leading sire of 1996 in North America and in
2002 internationally. His own racing
career excelled at age 4 and 5 when he captured
many stakes victories highlighted by the 1985
Breeders' Cup Mile. When last we saw
Cozzene, at age 25, he posed for the camera as
if to ask where we had been and why we had
waited so long to capture his extraordinary
presence. I will personally miss knowing
that he graces Gainesway. |

Breeders' Cup Steeplechase and the Colonial Cup, he was

back to win the 1992 Breeders' Cup Steeplechase, and

Valid Victress - 6/16/08 at 18. Stakes winning
daughter of Valid Appeal, out of Grecian Victory, by Dr.
Fager, was the dam of Perfect Sting.
Vindication - 7/10/08 at 8. Two year old champion
of 2002, Vindication was a leading second year crop sire.
Sired by Seattle Slew, out of Strawberry Reason, by
Strawberry Road, his triple crown campaign was cut short due
to a suspensory injury. His ashes will be buried at
owner Satish Sanan's KY farm.
Vinstar - 6/21/08 at 3. Kentucky bred colt by

Wanderin Boy - 11/29/08 at 7. Owned and bred by
Stone Farm, the stakes winning horse by Seeking the Gold,

Warren's Kenzo - 12/26/08 at 2. Sired by
Kris Kross, out of Shanes Queen, by Shanekite, the bay colt
was a Benjamin Warren CA bred.
West Coast Coach - 2/2008 at 3. Crafty Prospector
colt was thought to be the top 3yo at Hawthorne over the
winter. Perfect in his only start, he was out of the
Tale of the Cat mare Anotherhappyending.
Who What Win - 1/2008 at 5. Stakes winning Dance
Brightly gelding placed in 17 of 23 lifetime starts.
Wild Again - 12/5/08 at 28. Stakes winning horse
by Icecapade, out of Bushel-n-Peck, by Khaled (GB), captured
the 1984 Breeders' Cup Classic. Retired in 1991 to
stallion duty at Three Chimneys, becoming a leading sire.
Pensioned in 2004, he will be buried at Three Chimneys.
