What do we, as a nation, care about books?

How much do you think we spend altogether on our libraries, public or private, as compared with what we spend on our horses?

~John Ruskin (1865)

Some glory in their birth...
Some in their wealth,
some in their body's force.
Some in their hounds and hawks,
some in their horse.

 ~William Shakespeare

There are an endless supply of equine books available.   This love of books is often initiated in the very young reader by a first acquaintance with books about horses.  From the early remembrance of children's book clubs comes a lifelong curiosity and fascination that grows more encompassing as time goes by.  To be a collector of books about horses is to meet an insurmountable, yet gratifying, challenge.  The subject matter and knowledge contained within these books is enormous and unlimited.  From ponies to draft horses, fiction to reference, paperback, hard back, and the rare treasures, there are thousands of books available for both  the casual reader and avid collector.
